An INNER VIEW with Writer and Director Selah Cohen
BIO
Selah Cohen is blessed to have over thirty years of experience in entertainment, fine arts, performance, and education in Mexico and in the United States. Selah has performed in, directed, co-produced, and written several stage productions, including Hidden: Your Purpose Unveiled, an original musical inspired by the story of Queen Esther, which was viewed online internationally. As a coach, director, lyricist, speaker, vocalist, and writer, Selah is a conduit for life-giving inspiration which reveals a larger purpose in the orchestration of the whole. She shares how the Master Director called her out of darkness into His marvelous light and directed her to start Living Arts Tabernacle which provides events and resources like The Chosen Creative Podcast to encourage creatives of faith to realize they’ve been chosen, to reclaim their role in His larger blueprint, and offer themselves to His service to help build His Kingdom. Selah is excited and honored to step into the role of International Chapter Director for Influence Women, an initiative to connect and equip women in arts, entertainment, and media started by Kathleen and Phil Cooke, founders of The Influence Lab and Cooke Media Group.
INNER VIEW
Kathleen Cooke: You have been a vibrant follower of God for many years. What has He taught you recently about who He is?
Selah Cohen: In the last few years, He has allowed me to go through emotionally and spiritually exhilarating peaks and intensely dark refining experiences. His faithful hand caught, rescued, and covered me, then set me back on the invisible ledge of faith. With every breath, He helps me cross the deep ravine of the unknown and bolsters me as I climb back up to and find rest under His plans and promises, then to testify about His faithfulness. Once on the other side, looking out over it all, my Trustworthy Guide reminds me how far He brought me, then inspires a word memorial so the lessons remain as a tried and true roadmap toward greater maturity in Him.
Kathleen: You have been living in Israel for many years and with a constant threat of terrorism. What have you learned about not living in fear?
Selah: The recent times of fear and uncertainty refined and perfected my faith. When fear and uncertainty try to capsize and destroy, I dwell on His mighty deeds of the past, listen for confirmation and guidance, then walk it out one step at a time.
Kathleen: You have to be a leader in the competitive media and entertainment industry. What is a leadership lesson that changed everything for you?
Selah: He taught me that leading is really about facilitating what He wants to do with the hearts and gifts of others for His greater plan. To be a healthy, mature leader, it is essential to maintain balance, safeguard my heart, mind, soul, and strength in my relationship with Him and others, practice wise time management, and make Spirit-led choices for the priorities in my calling and personal life.
Kathleen: What has God taught you about your influence as you walk with Him?
Selah: The Light of the World can work through conduits who are willing to be refined and rooted in Him. In Ephesians 5:16, we learn, “..watch your step. use your head. Make the most of every chance…These are desperate times!” (MSG) To survive the tidal wave of darkness and desperation around us, we must be anchored in the True Root as we allow the Master Gardener to produce attractive, sweetly fragrant fruit in our lives His way, in His time. We can receive and walk in the Bridegroom’s light, not our own wisdom.
We can trust as we yield and allow Him to refine the oil in our lamps so His irresistible illumination shines through our lives as His masterpieces, stars, and beacons of hope to help lead others to His eternal harvest (Philippians 2:15-16).
